Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past: 3/10 Stars

Release Date: May 1, 2009

Content Advisory: Rated PG-13 for sexual content throughout, some language and a drug reference. There were many sex scenes throughout, yet with no nudity. However, many women wear lingerie. There is much drinking by the main character.

Review:

"Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" is a dull, stupid, and pointless film with sex from the very beginning and almost no purpose.

In Short:

"Ghosts Of Girlfriends Past" is a take-off of the classic Charles Dickens story. Let me tell you, that after sitting through this hour and a half of nothing, Charles Dickens himself would be ashamed. This film should not even be labeled as entertainment, in my opinion.

In Full:

"Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" documents the story of Connor, a photographer who likes to sleep with women. A lot of them. Afraid to get too close to any woman, he simply has one-night stands. But after breaking up with his girlfriend Jen he is soon visited by the Ghost of Girlfriends Past and Future, bringing him back to all of the previous women he's bedded. Does he learn a valuable lesson from this? Yes and no. If you don't understand, you'll just have to sit through this raunchy and laughless flop.

The acting, as a whole was decent. It wasn't the best performance I had seen from Matthew McConaughey or Jennifer Garner, but it was pretty solid for the lifeless script they were given. Though I'm normally a huge fan of McConaughey, with the trash contained in this film, it was really hard to get anything out of his performance. Garner portrayed a strong character, and though it wasn't as good as I've seen her in such films as, "Catch and Release" and "13 Going On 30," it was still worthwhile.

The visuals were craptastic. This is a supposed romantic comedy, so there's not much to comment on for this category. Seeing a bunch of barely clothed women walk around on screen and Matthew McConaughey bed a load of women was just not my cup of tea.

As to the cons... I could sit here for hours and write this paragraph, but I will try to sum it up for you briefly. Firstly, there was way too much sex in this film. Though some of it was for the plot, it all felt way too raunchy and the exact opposite of entertainment. The storyline also felt unoriginal and steroetypical, and besides the decent acting, most everything about the movie was boring, unenergetic, and dead.

In conclusion, "Ghosts of Girlfriends Past" was not worth the $7 I paid to get into the theater. It was a movie that let me down horribly, and I don't care to watch ever again. Even if you like Matthew McConaughey or Jennifer Garner, go out and rent such flicks as "13 Going On 30" or "How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days." If I was to choose three words to describe this movie, they would be as follows: gross, stupid and dumb. A major letdown.

While I will agree with you about the fact that this movie had an excessive amount of sex in it, I enjoyed the general storyline. I thought that it was a cute movie overall. It's not my new favorite movie, but I would watch it again.
